Your questions, honestly answered
Can't find your question? Just call: +49 171 581 81 52.
Does the first estimate cost anything?
No. The estimate from photos or in conversation is free and without obligation.
What does the written certificate cost?
79 € per watch, fully refunded if you sell the watch to me within 3 months. Larger estates: flat price on request.
Which photos do you need?
Dial from the front, caseback, the side with the crown, bracelet and clasp, and box and papers if available. Phone photos in daylight are fine.
The watch has stopped. Should I have it repaired first?
Please don't. Repairs, polishing or a new dial can significantly reduce the value of older watches.
Do I have to sell to you?
Never. You can keep the watch, sell it yourself, or take my estimate to another dealer.
How can you help me turn my watch into money?
In two ways. Direct purchase: I buy the watch myself, with a written offer and payment by bank transfer on the same day. This is the quickest way. Commission sale: I sell the watch on your behalf to collectors through my shop and network. This usually takes a few weeks but often brings more for sought-after pieces. We decide together which way suits your watch.
Is selling through you worth it for every watch?
Honestly, not for every one. Checking, servicing, photos, warranty and shipping cost almost as much for an inexpensive watch as for a valuable one, so buying or selling on commission only makes sense for both of us from a certain value upwards. You still get a free estimate for every watch. If yours is below that, I will tell you openly and give you a tip on how to sell it well yourself. And sometimes a watch is best kept in the family anyway.
How and when am I paid?
By bank transfer, usually on the same day, with a written purchase contract. Your ID is recorded for every purchase.
We are several heirs. Who can sell?
As a rule, all heirs must agree. I need the consent of all co-heirs or a power of attorney.
Do you also settle the estate or advise on inheritance tax?
No. I value and buy watches. For estate administration, legal questions and inheritance tax you need a notary, lawyer or tax advisor. My valuation certificate can serve as a basis for them. I am happy to name contacts.
Can I just drop by?
Please only with an appointment. I take my time with every watch and am often out visiting clients. Call or write to me and we will find a time that suits you: Mon–Fri 9am–6pm, Sat 10am–2pm. I am also happy to come to you, free of charge in Frankfurt and Rhine-Main.
Do you buy gold or jewellery?
I am not a gold buyer, and I never value a gold watch by its gold weight. For gold and jewellery from an estate I am still happy to advise you: I work with experienced specialists from the trade and will put you in touch with the right person.
I don't live near Frankfurt.
Estimates work anywhere in Germany by photo. For a purchase, I can send you a fully insured shipping box.
